About the Role
ONESource Moving Solutions Oakville is the local franchise of an established specialty moving company. We help people move, downsize, organize, and settle into new spaces. Much of our work supports older adults and their families through major life transitions, including downsizing.
We also handle professional relocations, restoration moves (which include emptying a home after fire or flood so repairs can happen and then moving everything back), and estate moves (which include sorting and clearing a home after a death or a move into long-term care).
The Move Assistant role is hands-on, active, and service-focused. You pack, prepare, move, unpack, and set up clients’ belongings with care and respect. Most shifts end with something visibly completed: a home cleared, a new space organized, or a family ready to settle in.
What You'll Do
Pack, wrap, and label household items
Prepare furniture for transport, including basic disassembly and reassembly
Load, unload, and move furniture, boxes, and personal belongings
Organize and set up belongings at the new space according to direction
Work alongside clients, family members, residence staff, and other people working on-site
Follow ONESource training, safety practices, and on-site instructions
We train everyone from scratch on packing, lifting, furniture protection, and basic tools, including Allen keys, screwdrivers, and cordless drills. No prior moving or tool experience is required.
Who This Role Fits
You are reliable and punctual, careful with other people’s belongings, patient with older adults and families, a good listener, comfortable with steady physical work, and willing to learn as part of a small team.
You will be handling personal, fragile, sentimental, or valuable belongings, so care and discretion are essential. Experience in hospitality, caregiving, healthcare, retail, customer service, organizing, staging, trades, cleaning, or other hands-on service work is a real asset.
Strength is not the primary qualifier. Care, reliability, good judgment, and a steady pace matter more.
Physical Demands
This is an active role. Applicants should expect to:
Lift items up to approximately 50 lbs unassisted; heavier items are handled as team lifts
Lift, carry, bend, and reach repeatedly throughout the shift
Stand and move for most of the shift
Work in homes, condos, retirement residences, and storage spaces, including stairs, narrow hallways, and multi-floor environments
What You Need to Start
Eligibility to work in Canada
A smartphone for shift communication and time tracking
A successful Vulnerable Sector Check from your local police service
Applicants pay upfront for the Police clearance application fee and are reimbursed after the 90-day probation
Black running-style shoes suitable for active indoor work; safety-toe versions are recommended but not required
Black work pants suitable for active work; leggings are not appropriate for this role
Reliable transportation to the depot or to assigned client locations across the service area
ONESource provides seasonally appropriate branded work shirts and a 10% discount at Mark’s for required gear.
Hours, Travel, and Pay
Hours vary with client demand, generally 15 to 35 per week. This is a true part-time role, and applicants should be comfortable with some week-to-week variation as the business grows.
For each shift, employees will be told whether to report to the depot or directly to a client location. Paid time begins at the reporting location, and travel between job sites during a shift is paid.
Move Assistants start at $21 per hour and move to $22 after passing the 90-day probation. The top of the range, $25, is reserved for top performers who consistently demonstrate reliability, quality, safety, and team contribution.
Strong performers can also grow into Team Leader roles, which have a higher rate and require a full G driver’s licence.
Tips, when provided by clients, are shared among the team members who worked on that job. Vacation pay is provided according to Ontario employment standards, and all employees are covered by WSIB.
